Dr. Carol wants to get to know you and your child!  And, of course you want to get to know her. She will review the medical and dental history with you and find out what your primary concerns are.

Every child should be seen by 9 months of age to do a caries risk assessment. This includes a diet history, feeding history, fluoride, and a dental history of the child and parents.

Dr. Carol will examine the child singing the ABC song of the teeth. She will want to determine if there is any active decay or any potential areas of decay. She will also want to evaluate the plaque level and oral hygiene. This can be done lap-to lap with the parent or having the parent sit in the dental chair with the child on his or her lap.

After gathering the history and examining the child, she will discuss the child’s risk of developing decay and give instruction on oral hygiene, diet, feeding habits, fluoride, and the best way to keep the child cavity-free.

Dr. Carol always invites the parents back to the treatment room. This allows the parents to get to know her and feel comfortable with her. There is usually a natural progression over the years where children feel comfortable with Dr. Carol and come back to the treatment room by themselves. Dr. Carol does not have a certain age for this. Each child is different and has a different comfort level being away from parents. If parents want to come back to the treatment room, they are always welcome to do so.

We strive to make each and every visit to our office a fun one!
